Learn to inspire when marketing your products | What, How, Why!
As a business 2020 it’s really important to be able to inspire people. This can be from content, commercials or from the leaders of the company. In this blog post I’m going to teach you about a method called “What. How, Why”. This method was invented by a guy called Simon Sinek. Every time I’m thinking about the right way of building a brand this method comes to my mind.
So what is this magical method? It’s actually a pretty simple way of thinking when marketing your company to the world. Think of a circle with three categories, what, how and why. When building a company the first thing you do is always deciding what you are going to sell. This is the “what” in the circle and also the easiest step that is very hard to fail at.
When you are done with your research and decided which product you want to sell it’s time for step two. Now it gets a little bit more difficult. Now you need to figure out how you going to sell this product. What is your targeted age, how do you promote your business, how much should it cost? Many people actually fail building their business on this second step. It takes time to figure every little question about how to sell a product and people have a hard time valuing time. A lot of people have the mindset of if you don’t get a sale in two weeks it’s game over and they quit. Time really is one of the biggest reasons why people fail. They think building a business can happen over night and it never does. Some of the biggest companies in the world right now was built by people sleeping in their office working every second of the day. Succeeding building a business is never luck. You can get some luck on the way but luck is often something you deserve when putting in the work.
Now to the last step of the “golden circle”. The last step is one of the biggest things that separate small companies to the leading companies of the world and that is why. All people know what they are selling and a lot of people also know how they going to sell their product but only a few companies in the world know why they are selling their product.
When I say why I don’t mean because you want to earn money. Everyone on the planet wants to earn money. If your why is only to make money it is going to be a long road to success. You need to find your true why. What do YOU believe your product can help your customers with?
On Simon Sineks Ted talk he give us an example of this strategy. He talks about how Apple is using this method to inspire people to buy their products. This is what he says “if Apple was like everyone else a marketing message from them might sound like this -We make great computers, they are beautiful designed, simple to use and user friendly. Want to buy one?” This is how most businesses marketing their products. You not getting that interested in buying a product and that is because most of the companies have the circle inside out. They start with what and then move to how when marketing. Simon Sinek then talk about how Apple actually describe their product “Everything we do we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently. The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautiful designed, simple to use and user friendly. We just happened to make great computers. Want to buy one?” The message is the same but in one marketing message they start from what and from the other they start from why. The second one is inspiring and make us want to buy their product. ”People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it” ~Simon Sinek
I found this speech and method so interesting so I wanted to share it with you guys. I highly recommend all of you to search for “Simon Sinek - Start With Why - Ted Talk” on YouTube. I found it extremely useful.
